Steamboat Music Fest

Sat, January 8th 2011

Just got back to Auburn after Musicfest in Steamboat, CO. I had an absolute blast! The week started off with a karaoke/poker tournament where I met Cody Riley. This guy is awesome! Ya'll have to check him out... CodyRileyBand.com. He talked me into singing a few songs on stage with him. The crazy thing was not the singing, but the audience. Having Wade Bowen, Stoney Larue, Cody Canada, Seth James, Roger Creager, and Kevin Fowler in the crowd made things a little intimidating, but SO much fun. The next night I saw an accoustic show with Cody Canada, Joe Ely, Willie Braun, and Will Kimbrough. They were all incredible I love acoustic shows because they are always so personal. Then we headed over to the Tent to see Jason Boland and the Stragglers and Roger Creager. But the highlight of this night was the Charlie Robinson show at a little bar called Bear River. When he started playing The Wedding Song (a song that I have dreamed about singing with him since my mom jumped on stage with him a few years ago) I jumped on stage and earned quite an unexpected applause. It was an absolute blast. The next stop was The Band of Heathens, where Kevin Welch joined them on stage. It was such an inspiration. Perhaps the best career oppurtunity I had during the trip was playing an acousitc show with Cody Riley. We played a show to promote Southern Thread in the main corridor of the Steamboat Grand. We had quite a few heavy hitters come by and listen for a little bit. Randy Rogers passed by, as well as Roger Creager. The most impressive crowd members perhaps were Tuff Hedeman and Randy Wells. Who complimented my  music, and in response I almost had a heart attack. I then headed over to see the debut of The Departed. I was always a huge Cross Canadian Ragweed fan, but this band really has a different sound going on. They absolutely blew me away! I have heard many good things about Seth James, but never seen him live. Lets just say I am pretty much obsessed with his breathtaking music. His wife Jessica is also so nice and incredibly talented! And of course Cody Canada rocked as usual. I guess the point of this blog was to inspire you guys to expand your horizons and check out some of these amazing artists. And Thanks for all the support all the fans show me! Keep on listening and spreading the word about my music! New stuff coming soon <3
